class teachers.
Course aims:
The course aims to help teachers and practitioners teach writing in the Reception year of the Foundation Stage and through Key Stage 1. It is designed to further develop understanding of how children develop as writers and how they can be moved from supported writing to independence. The use of strategies such as shared reading, talk for writing, teacher demonstration and teacher scribing will be explored, along with how to develop pupils’ handwriting and spelling skills.

Mary Erwin is an Education Consultant who has worked as an accredited inspector on behalf of Ofsted since 2008. As a former primary Head Teacher and local authority adviser, her key areas of expertise are leadership and management and English. She has delivered the Leadership Pathways programme for the National College for School Leadership, acting as facilitator and mentor for aspiring Deputy Head Teachers.
