The course is designed for anyone wanting to secure their subject knowledge and increase their confidence in delivering high quality phonics teaching.
Course aims:
The course covers the underlying principles of teaching phonics in a systematic way through daily, discrete lessons. Participants will be given the opportunity to review age-related expectations along with the pace and progression of the six phonics phases as outlined in the DfE approved‘Letters and Sounds’ programme.
Activities, games and lesson sequences that support learning will be explored along with use of appropriate resources.

Mary Erwin is an Education Consultant who has worked as an accredited inspector on behalf of Ofsted since 2008. As a former primary Head Teacher and local authority adviser, her key areas of expertise are leadership and management and English. She has delivered the Leadership Pathways programme for the National College for School Leadership, acting as facilitator and mentor for aspiring Deputy Head Teachers.
