What is the NPQSL programme?
The NPQSL qualification provides national recognition of your leadership developmentand professional achievement as a senior leader. You should be a senior leader in a school, or about to take on a substantive seniorleader role. You should be in a leadership role with cross-school responsibilities, for example: an experienced senior leader, a deputy head, a special educationalneeds coordinator (SENCO), an advanced skills teacher (AST), or other senior staff
The programme:
NPQSL will help you develop the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to bea highly effective senior leader.
What’s involved?
You’ll need to complete 2 core (compulsory) modules, 2 further elective (optional)modules of your choice, an in-school project and a final assessment. Each moduleinvolves practical learning in your school, face-to-face peer and facilitated learning,plus reading, reflection and online learning.
Duration:
Completion of NPQSL needs to be completed by September 2017. This is a self-managed programme and you decide how best to structure the elements to meet the deadline for assessment.

• Closing the Gap (core module)
• Succeeding in Senior Leadership (core module)
• Effective Whole School Management (elective module)
• School Self-evaluation (elective module)
• Improving the Quality of Teaching (elective module)
• Leading Professional Development (elective module)
• Leading Change for Improvement (elective module)
• Research and Development in Teaching (elective module)
• Effective Partnership Working (elective module)
Assessment:
There will be a final assessment at the end of the programme and currently this is an assessed strategic leadership task in your own school, linked to school improvement activities undertaken in the workplace and your learning from the modules.
Individual modules are not currently assessed. However, all participants are asked to reflect on their learning as they progress through the programme. At assessment you’ll need to show that you can:
• deliver successful and sustainable school improvement in your school setting
• use the experience to reflect upon and improve your own leadership skills
