As a senior teacher and/or leader you have a professional responsibility for developing your colleagues. Coaching and mentoring is an excellent way of supporting others and providing meaningful CPD opportunities.
This course is for those who don’t see themselves as experts but who do want to help the person or people they are coaching to learn.
Areas covered will include:
- developing your communication skills
- asking open questions
- active listening
- providing feedback that promotes learning
A variety of coaching models will be looked at as will ways in which to develop a coaching culture that supports school improvement.

Mary Erwin is an Education Consultant who has worked as an accredited inspector on behalf of Ofsted since 2008. As a former primary Head Teacher and local authority adviser, her key areas of expertise are leadership and management and English. She has delivered the Leadership Pathways programme for the National College for School Leadership, acting as facilitator and mentor for aspiring Deputy Head Teachers.
